This weekend harpereaves and the developer have been ironing out the final bugs in AutismChat 3, the plugin that makes possible low-stim communication on a large multiplayer server. I've even had a chance to play and bug-test - here's some arrows harpereaves took to protect me:
What this means is that as soon as harpereaves has the files in their mitts, I'll be emailing all whitelisted players to let them know that we'll be updating from Bukkit 1.7.9 to 1.8.3, giving everyone a chance to ask questions and be opinionated. I'll give a date and time when we intend to update, and I'll send a confirmation email afterwards letting everyone know that it went smoothly and what you'll need to do to transition to the shiny new server without any issues.
What I can tell you already is that we don't intend to wipe the map - your base and your stuff should stay exactly as they are now, and the areas of the map that have been explored will also remain unchanged. This means that if you want to find new land features like ocean fortresses you will have to travel to previously unexplored areas of land.
I expect to update the server in about a week (Tuesday 12th May or so) - look out for an email with more specific information soon.

PS: harpereaves informs me that the arrows were taken while testing death messages, rather than while protecting me. I guess my life is not as important as I thought. *sniff*
